MTN Ghana Backs Asantifest 2026 with Major Boost as Kumasi Hosts Grand Launch

Telecom giant commits to cultural promotion, youth empowerment, and economic growth as government unveils ambitious legacy projects for Ashanti Region

Telecommunications leader MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its strong commitment to cultural development and community empowerment with a significant pledge to support the 2026 edition of the Asanteman Festival, popularly known as Asantifest.

The announcement was made during a grand launch event held at Kaase in the Asokwa Municipality of Kumasi, where industry leaders, government officials, and key cultural stakeholders gathered to unveil plans for what is expected to be a landmark celebration.

Speaking to the media, Senior Manager for General Trade (Northern Ghana) at MTN, Simon Amoh, highlighted the vital role culture plays in national identity and development.

He described culture as a priceless asset that defines the heritage of both Ghana and the Ashanti Kingdom.

According to him, MTN Ghana’s decision to support Asantifest 2026 aligns with the company’s broader vision of empowering communities while preserving Ghana’s rich cultural legacy.

He further revealed that the telecom giant will roll out a series of impactful initiatives throughout the festival to enhance its reach and overall success.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, disclosed that this year’s festival will go beyond traditional celebrations to deliver meaningful social and economic benefits.

He announced that one of the key legacy projects will be the renovation of the female prison health centre, a move aimed at improving healthcare services for inmates and addressing longstanding infrastructural challenges.

In a major push for youth empowerment, the Minister also revealed plans to implement an ambitious apprenticeship programme targeting at least 50 young people in each constituency across the Ashanti Region. Beneficiaries will receive monthly stipends to support their training, equipping them with practical and employable skills while helping to reduce unemployment.

Additionally, he disclosed that the government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has committed a substantial GH¢20 million investment to revitalise the Kumawood film industry.

The initiative is expected to boost local film production, create jobs, and reposition the sector as a major driver of Ghana’s creative economy.

The 2026 Asantifest promises an exciting lineup of activities, including colourful cultural displays, trade and investment exhibitions, musical concerts, and high-level business forums. These events are strategically designed to promote tourism, attract investment, and accelerate economic growth within the Ashanti Region.

With strong backing from both the private sector and government, Asantifest 2026 is shaping up to be not just a cultural celebration, but a powerful catalyst for development and opportunity.
