“YOU WILL BE DISGRACED FIRST”- ANNOH-DOMPREH FIRES WARNING OVER TREATMENT OF COCOA FARMERS

Minority Chief Whip Rallies Kwabre East Farmers, Accuses Mahama-Led Government of Neglect and Bad Faith

The Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has issued a strong and uncompromising warning to individuals and authorities he claims are bent on disgracing Ghanaian farmers—particularly cocoa farmers—declaring that such actors will face public disgrace themselves before their agenda succeeds.

Speaking during an engagement with cocoa farmers at Agona Bepoa in the Sekyere East Constituency of the Ashanti Region, the outspoken legislator assured farmers that the Minority Caucus in Parliament remains resolute and battle-ready to defend their interests against what he described as “deliberate neglect” by the ruling government.

According to Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority will not relent in its efforts until the government led by John Dramani Mahama is compelled to reconsider its approach and implement meaningful policies that directly improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers across the country.

“Those who seek to disgrace our hardworking farmers must be prepared to face disgrace themselves. We will not sit idle while the backbone of our economy is disrespected and abandoned,” he declared passionately.

Growing Tensions Over Cocoa Sector Neglect

The Minority Chief Whip did not mince words in his criticism of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the administration of lacking empathy and genuine commitment toward farmers.

He argued that current policies and actions or lack thereof, clearly demonstrate that the government does not have the welfare of farmers at heart, especially cocoa farmers who remain central to Ghana’s economic stability.

“It is obvious that this government does not mean well for farmers. Their actions point to a troubling pattern of neglect and indifference. Cocoa farmers, who have sacrificed so much for this nation, deserve far better,” he stressed.

Annoh-Dompreh further alleged that the government harbors “bad intentions” toward the agricultural sector, warning that such an approach could have long-term consequences for both the economy and rural livelihoods.

    Minority Vows Relentless Advocacy
Reaffirming the stance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in Parliament, Annoh-Dompreh assured the farmers that their concerns will continue to be amplified on the national stage.

He emphasized that the Minority will push aggressively for policies that ensure fair pricing, timely payments, improved access to inputs, and better living conditions for cocoa farmers.

“We are your voice in Parliament, and we will fight tirelessly until justice is served. The future of Ghana depends on how we treat our farmers today,” he added.

    A Political Battle Ground Ahead
The remarks by the Minority Chief Whip signal intensifying political tension over the management of Ghana’s cocoa sector, a key pillar of the national economy. With farmers increasingly voicing concerns over pricing, support systems, and government responsiveness, the issue is rapidly becoming a major political battleground.

As the debate heats up, all eyes will be on Parliament and the Mahama administration to see whether these concerns will be addressed or whether the confrontation between government and opposition will escalate further.
