MTN Ghana Inspires Hope as 2025 Sustainability Week Opens

MTN Ghana has launched its 2025 Sustainability Week with a powerful reminder that building a resilient future for Ghana starts with everyday people and the collective choices they make.

The event, themed “Sustainability, Our Collective Responsibility: Driving Impact, Deepening Commitment,” set an emotional tone as MTN called on Ghanaians from all walks of life to join hands in shaping a cleaner, fairer, and more inclusive country.

At the launch in Accra, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer Adwoa Wiafe said sustainability is no longer a corporate checkbox but the heartbeat of MTN’s mission. Aligning the event with the opening of COP30 in Brazil, she emphasized that Ghana’s climate journey is intertwined with global efforts to protect communities and safeguard future generations.

MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett highlighted the human impact behind the company’s progress from expanding opportunities for women, who now make up more than 40% of the workforce, to powering key facilities with solar energy to reduce long-term environmental harm. These steps, he noted, are building momentum toward MTN’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.

Government representative Cedric Dzelu of the Ministry of Climate Change and Sustainability praised MTN for recognizing that climate action is fundamentally about people, their health, livelihoods, and security. He stressed that strong partnerships between the private sector and the state are essential for protecting vulnerable communities.

One of the most touching moments at the launch came when MTN presented electric wheelchairs to two staff members living with disabilities. The gesture drew warm applause, symbolizing the company’s belief that sustainability must also uplift people, not just protect the planet.

As Sustainability Week rolls out nationwide, MTN Ghana hopes its message will resonate far beyond the corporate world, sparking conversations, encouraging responsible choices, and inspiring collective action toward a greener and more inclusive Ghana that future generations can depend on.
