Nkawie Police Commander Warns Youth:“Stay Away From Drugs If You Want to Join Security Services”
Chief Superintendent Joshua Semenyo says substance abuse could destroy young people’s health,careers and chances of entering the security services

The Nkawie Divisional Police Commander,Chief Superintendent Joshua Semenyo,has issued a strong warning to the youth,particularly members of the Cadet Corps,against the abuse of illicit drugs,cautioning that substance abuse could derail their health,future careers and aspirations to serve in Ghana’s security services.
According to him, young people who engage in drug abuse risk suffering serious physical and psychological consequences,which could undermine their ability to pursue meaningful careers and contribute positively to society.
Chief Superintendent Semenyo stressed that young people aspiring to join the Police Service and other security agencies must maintain high levels of discipline,good health and physical fitness.
He cautioned that drug use could also jeopardise their chances of being recruited,as prospective security personnel are subjected to strict screening and medical assessments during the recruitment process.
“If you want to join the security services,you must stay away from drugs because drug abuse can affect your health and also disqualify you from being recruited,” he cautioned.
Message to the Cadet Corps
The Nkawie Police Commander made the remarks during a joint health walk and aerobics exercise organised by the security services in the Nkawie area of the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
The event brought together personnel from the Ghana Police Service,Ghana National Fire Service,Ghana Immigration Service and members of the Cadet Corps.
Chief Superintendent Semenyo urged the young cadets,who are being trained in discipline,patriotism and service to the nation,to protect their health and resist peer pressure that could expose them to drugs.
He further called on parents,teachers and community leaders to intensify education on the dangers of substance abuse and provide the necessary guidance and support to young people.
He said the consequences of drug abuse went beyond health concerns,stressing that it could deprive young people of valuable opportunities and prevent them from achieving their career ambitions.
Police Intensify Fight Against Crime
The Divisional Commander also used the occasion to caution residents against engaging in criminal activities,assuring the public that the police remained committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace in the municipality.
He urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing timely and relevant information on suspected criminal activities in their communities.
According to him,effective collaboration between the police, other security agencies and residents was critical to preventing crime and creating a safe environment for businesses,institutions and individuals to thrive.
Chief Superintendent Semenyo also advised the youth not to allow themselves to be recruited into criminal activities,warning that involvement in crime could have devastating consequences for their future.
Health Walk Promotes Fitness
The health walk saw participants move through the principal streets of Nkawie before engaging in aerobics and other physical fitness activities.
The exercise was organised to promote healthy lifestyles,physical fitness and wellness among security personnel while creating an avenue for stronger collaboration among the various security agencies.
Participants noted that physical fitness was particularly important for security personnel because their duties often demand strength,endurance and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
They expressed satisfaction with the initiative,saying regular health walks and aerobics could improve physical fitness while also providing an opportunity for personnel from different security agencies to interact and strengthen professional bonds.
Strengthening Security Cooperation
Beyond promoting fitness,the exercise served as an opportunity to deepen cooperation and unity among the security agencies operating in the area.
The joint participation of the Police Service,Fire Service,Immigration Service and Cadet Corps underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining public safety.
The organisers said such community-oriented activities could also enhance public confidence in the security services by bringing personnel closer to residents.
Chief Superintendent Semenyo urged security personnel to remain physically fit,disciplined and committed to their duties as they continue to safeguard lives and property within the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality.
He reiterated that maintaining peace and security was a shared responsibility and called on residents,especially the youth,to support the security agencies in their efforts to prevent crime and keep the municipality safe.
