In a remarkable blend of celebration, philanthropy, and social commentary, Nana Okogyeadom Opoku Karikari II has urged Ghanaian parents to adopt responsible parenting by reducing birth rates to ensure the proper care and upbringing of their children.

The revered traditional leader made this call during his 50th birthday celebration, an event that combined festivity with compassion and community service. As part of the occasion, Nana extended a generous hand to the Cherebu’s Children’s Home at Santasi-Apire, donating essential items including bags of rice, sugar, cooking oil, and other vital supplies to support the upkeep of the children.

Speaking to guests, dignitaries, and community members, Nana expressed concern over the growing number of children lacking adequate parental care, describing the situation as a pressing social issue. He stressed that smaller family sizes would allow parents to provide better education, healthcare, and overall welfare for their children.

“It is our responsibility as parents to ensure that the children we bring into this world receive the care and attention they deserve,” he emphasized.

Nana further called on the government to prioritize the welfare of vulnerable children by extending greater support to privately run orphanages across the country. He noted that while such institutions play a crucial role in society, they often operate under severe financial and logistical constraints.

The administrator of the home, Bernard Ofori, expressed profound appreciation for the timely intervention. He assured that the donated items would significantly improve the living conditions of the children and appealed for sustained support from both government and private individuals.

“We are deeply grateful for this gesture. It will go a long way to support the children, and we hope more stakeholders will come on board to assist orphanages across the country,” he stated.

The children, filled with joy and gratitude, offered heartfelt prayers for Nana, wishing him long life, good health, and continued prosperity.

    Touching on National Morality Debate
In addition to his social advocacy, Nana also weighed in on the ongoing national conversation surrounding LGBTQ+ issues. He called on the government, led by John Dramani Mahama, to take decisive action regarding the proposed legislation on the matter.

Nana expressed strong views rooted in cultural and moral perspectives, urging leadership to act in what he described as the interest of Ghanaian values. His comments reflect a broader national debate, with various stakeholders holding differing opinions on the issue.

    A Celebration with Purpose

The 50th birthday celebration of the Otumfuo Topreman Kontihene was not only a personal milestone but also a platform for advocacy, charity, and national reflection. His actions and message underscored the importance of collective responsibility in building a society that prioritizes the welfare of its most vulnerable members.

The event is expected to inspire individuals, traditional leaders, and policymakers to intensify efforts toward social support systems, responsible parenting, and inclusive national dialogue on critical issues affecting Ghana’s future.
