Dr.Abdul-Razak alleges Ghanaian passports are being secured for Nigerians to represent Ghana at international Quran recitation competitions

A fresh controversy has emerged over Ghana’s representation at international Quran recitation competitions,with the National Deputy Chairman of the Quran Recitation Affairs Committee,Dr. Abdul-Razak Mohammed Issahak,alleging that some Nigerians are being brought from Nigeria and allegedly given Ghana’s slots to compete on behalf of the country.
Dr. Abdul-Razak has consequently appealed to the government,the National Chief Imam and the Asantehene,Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,to investigate the alleged practice and establish the truth behind the claims.
According to him,an individual allegedly travels to Nigeria to identify and bring Nigerians into Ghana before securing Ghanaian passports for them to participate in the World Quran Recitation Competition as representatives of Ghana.
He claims this is happening despite the availability of talented and qualified Ghanaian Quran reciters who are capable of representing the country at international competitions.
Dr. Abdul-Razak further alleges that the practice is motivated by personal financial gain and has called for the matter to be thoroughly investigated.
He wants authorities to take legal action against anyone found culpable,arguing that such action would serve as a deterrent to others.
Dr. Abdul-Razak made the allegations at a ceremony organized by the Buobai Muslim Community in the Asokore Mampong Municipality to welcome and honour 19-year-old Zainab Abdul Rahmat,who secured second place at a World Quranic Competition in Saudi Arabia, together with three other delegates who represented Ghana.

Zongo Chief raises alarm over drug abuse,social media
Meanwhile,the Buobai Zongo Chief, Naaba Hamid Tijani Yakubu,has called on young people in Zongo communities to stay away from drug abuse and the irresponsible use of social media.
According to him, the two practices are increasingly posing serious threats to the future of the youth.
He appealed to parents, Imams and community leaders to intensify efforts to guide, educate and counsel young people to lead responsible and disciplined lives.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Zainab Abdul Rahmat,Ghana’s second-place winner at the World Quranic Competition in Saudi Arabia,has encouraged young people to devote more time to studying and understanding the Holy Quran.
Speaking in an interview with Roving Reporter of thus medium,www.dailywatchgh.com Oheneba Dankwah Jupitar Owusu, Zainab said the Quran provides direction and guidance for life and teaches people to uphold good moral values.
She believes greater understanding of the Holy Quran can help shape the character and conduct of the younger generation.
