Shock and Sorrow Grip Bekwai: Two Tragedies in Just 24 Hours

The Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti Region is in mourning after two separate tragedies struck within the span of a single day, leaving residents stunned and grieving.

Wife Brutally Stabbed at Edwenase, Abodom
On Sunday, August 10, 2025, a domestic dispute in Edwenase, a suburb of Abodom, turned violent when 38-year-old Rebecca Appiah was stabbed in the stomach by her husband.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Rebecca told Angel Broadcast Network’s (ABN) Bekwai correspondent, Nana Poku, that her husband had for years accused her of infidelity whenever she visited the Bekwai market. She said he had repeatedly threatened to kill her—a threat that became a horrifying reality when he launched the unprovoked attack.

In a shocking twist, the suspect allegedly stabbed himself immediately after attacking his wife and attempted to flee. Both are now battling for their lives at the Bekwai Government Hospital.

Farmer Found Dead in the Bush
That same day, tragedy struck again when residents of a nearby community discovered the lifeless body of a farmer deep in the bush. The cause of death remains unclear, and police have begun a full-scale investigation.

    A Community in Mourning
The twin tragedies have cast a heavy pall over Bekwai. Shaken residents are calling for stronger community action against domestic violence and improved measures to protect personal safety. Police inquiries into both incidents are ongoing.
