Constituency Secretary calls for unity, hard work and grassroots mobilisation after completing vetting process at Trede

The incumbent Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency,Lukeman Mumuni,has expressed confidence in the party’s long-term prospects of reclaiming the constituency’s parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Mr. Mumuni,the NDC must begin laying a strong organisational foundation now with the ultimate objective of securing the parliamentary seat in the 2032 general elections.

He made the remarks in an interview with Ezra TV and Ezra FM with Hon.Justice Baffour immediately after going through the vetting process for the upcoming NDC constituency elections at Atwima Twedie.

“2032 is our target”

Mr.Mumuni said the party’s ambition should go beyond internal elections and focus on building a united,disciplined and formidable grassroots organisation capable of competing effectively for the parliamentary seat.

He therefore appealed to party executives,delegates,supporters and sympathisers to put aside individual differences and work collectively towards strengthening the NDC’s presence across the constituency.

“We have to work together.

If we want to take the parliamentary seat,everybody must contribute. Our target is to work towards reclaiming the seat in 2032,” he said,according to the interview account.

His comments come at a time when the NDC is preparing for its constituency-level internal elections,with the party seeking to consolidate its organisational structures ahead of future electoral contests.

From internal elections to parliamentary ambition
Mr.Mumuni’s message places considerable emphasis on the connection between strong constituency organisation and the party’s future parliamentary ambitions.

He argued that the party must strengthen its grassroots structures,maintain unity among its members and ensure that constituency executives work closely with delegates and supporters.

The incumbent secretary also called for commitment from party members,stressing that reclaiming the parliamentary seat would require a collective effort rather than the work of individual candidates or executives.

A seat with a long political history
The Atwima Kwanwoma parliamentary seat has witnessed changes in political control over the years.

Available electoral records show that the NDC won the constituency in 1992,with Sampson Adu Gyamfi elected as MP,before the NPP won the seat in 1996.

The NPP has subsequently held the constituency in a number of elections,including the 2024 parliamentary election,when its candidate secured 57,338 votes against the NDC candidate’s 18,692 votes,according to this site,www.dailywatchgh.com compilation of the 2024 results.

It is against this historical and electoral background that Mr. Mumuni’s call to reclaim the seat in 2032 becomes part of a longer-term strategy for the NDC in the constituency.
