“You Are Not God”-Kwadaso MP Prof Kingsley Nyarko Fires Back at Rev.Owusu Bempah

Prof Kingsley Nyarko challenges Bempah’s authority to determine Ghana’s next president and rejects claims that his spiritual powers contributed to the NPP’s defeat

The Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency, Hon.Prof Kingsley Nyarko, has responded to recent comments by popular preacher Rev. Owusu Bempah concerning former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Ghana’s political future.

Prof. Nyarko questioned Rev. Bempah’s authority to determine who should or should not become President of Ghana, insisting that the choice of the country’s next leader ultimately rests with God and the Ghanaian electorate.

Reacting to comments attributed to Rev.Bempah suggesting that no Muslim, particularly Dr Bawumia, should be elected President, the Kwadaso MP described the position as inappropriate and urged the preacher to exercise caution in making public pronouncements.

“If God Says Yes, Who Is He to Say No?”

In a direct response,Prof Nyarko said Rev. Bempah could not assume the authority of God or determine the country’s political destiny.

“Rev.Owusu Bempah is not God and cannot decide who should lead Ghana as President. If God says yes, who is he to say no?”Prof Nyarko asked.»

According to the MP, Ghana is a democratic country in which citizens from diverse religious backgrounds have equal rights to participate in politics and aspire to the presidency.

He therefore urged religious leaders to refrain from making pronouncements that could unfairly exclude citizens from political participation on the basis of their faith.

“Prophesy Ghana’s Economic Future, Not Bawumia’s Defeat”

Prof. Nyarko further challenged Rev. Bempah to direct his prophetic attention towards Ghana’s future and the challenges confronting ordinary citizens.

He said the country’s economic difficulties required serious national dialogue and constructive leadership rather than prophecies focused on the political fortunes of particular individuals.

The MP urged the preacher to use his platform to promote hope, unity and national development.

NPP Lost 2024 Election Over Economic Performance

Prof. Nyarko also rejected claims attributed to Rev. Bempah that his spiritual powers were responsible for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.

He argued that the NPP’s defeat was primarily the result of voters’ assessment of the party’s performance while in government, particularly the state of the economy.

According to him,the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured victory because Ghanaian voters made a political decision based on their experiences and expectations, rather than as a result of any individual’s alleged supernatural intervention.

“The NPP lost the 2024 general election based on economic performance and the judgment of the Ghanaian voter, not because of anybody’s magical powers,”Prof. Nyarko stated.

He urged the NPP and other political parties to critically examine the election results and listen to voters’ concerns instead of attributing political outcomes to spiritual forces.

    Call for Responsible Leadership

Prof. Nyarko appealed to the Christian Council of Ghana and other relevant bodies to engage Rev. Bempah over statements he believes could undermine Ghana’s tradition of religious tolerance and democratic inclusion.

He stressed that religious leaders wield considerable influence in society and should therefore use their platforms to promote peace, tolerance and responsible citizenship.

The Kwadaso MP made the comments in an interview with media practitioners shortly after the commissioning of a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at the Nyankyerenease Methodist Basic School.

The project, facilitated by Hon.Prof. Kingsley Nyarko and funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund),is intended to improve educational infrastructure and provide a conducive learning environment for pupils outcome.
