The Member of Parliament for the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, Nicholas Amankwah, has donated 3,200 mathematical sets to candidates preparing for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), reaffirming his commitment to educational support in the area.
The donation, which has become an annual initiative, is aimed at promoting academic excellence and ensuring that no candidate is disadvantaged due to a lack of essential examination materials. Speaking on the intervention, the MP,popularly known as “Home Boy”,emphasized the importance of mathematical sets, particularly for subjects like Mathematics and Technical Drawing.
He noted that many students from financially challenged backgrounds struggle to afford such materials, and the gesture is intended to bridge that gap and create a level playing field for all candidates.

In addition to the donation, Mr. Amankwah pledged a full scholarship package for the best-performing student in the municipality, covering their education through to the tertiary level. The move, he said, is designed to motivate candidates to strive for excellence in their exams.
According to data from the Amenfi East Municipal Education Directorate, a total of 3,167 candidates from 127 schools are sitting for this year’s BECE across 14 examination centres. The figure comprises 1,619 females and 1,548 males from 47 private and 80 public schools.
On May 4, 2026, the MP visited several examination centres, including Amenfiman Senior High School, to mark the commencement of the exams. During his visit, he encouraged candidates to remain focused and confident throughout the examination period.
He also commended teachers and invigilators for their professionalism and dedication, acknowledging their critical role in ensuring a smooth and credible examination process.
Mr. Amankwah further urged candidates to adhere strictly to examination rules, cautioning against malpractice and the use of leaked questions or unauthorized assistance. He described the BECE as a significant milestone in the academic journey of every student and encouraged them to approach it with discipline and integrity.
