As part of efforts to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage early detection, the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency Women’s Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP),Ama Tiwaa, has organised a breast cancer awareness programme featuring health education, practical training and free breast cancer screening at Atwima Foase in the Ashanti Region.
The initiative attracted a diverse gathering of young and elderly women, men and party supporters from across the political divide within the district, highlighting the importance of collective action in the fight against breast cancer.
The programme sought to educate community members on breast cancer, promote preventive health practices and encourage women to seek timely medical attention to improve their chances of early diagnosis and treatment.
Women’s welfare remains a priority
Speaking in an interview with Ezra TV/fm,Ama Tiwaa explained that the initiative formed part of her strategies as the constituency’s NPP Women’s Organiser to reach out to, encourage and motivate women in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency.
She stressed the need for women to prioritise their health, adding that access to health education and screening could help them make informed decisions about their well-being.

Ama Tiwaa further urged women to visit the nearest health facility for appropriate breast and cervical cancer screening, emphasising that early detection and timely medical intervention could help save lives.
She also encouraged community members to support awareness initiatives and help break the silence and stigma surrounding cancer.
Health professional educates residents on breast cancer

Speaking on behalf of the Atwima Kwanwoma District Health Directorate,Senior Midwife Dally Evelyn Afriyie, based at the Foase health facility, educated participants on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and the importance of seeking medical attention when abnormalities are detected.
She urged women to become familiar with their breasts and report unusual changes, including lumps, changes in breast size or shape, skin dimpling, nipple changes or abnormal discharge,to a qualified health professional without delay.
Madam Afriyie also encouraged residents to adopt healthy lifestyles, engage in regular physical activity and participate in appropriate screening and health checks.
She emphasised that awareness, early diagnosis and timely access to treatment were essential in reducing the risk of late presentation and improving treatment outcomes.
A call for collective action
The programme underscored the importance of community-based health education in bringing essential information and screening services closer to residents.
It also demonstrated how community leaders, political representatives and health professionals can work together to promote public health beyond political affiliations.
As breast cancer awareness activities continue to draw attention to the importance of early detection, residents have been encouraged to take advantage of available health services, seek professional advice when necessary and share accurate health information with their families and communities.
The key message remains clear: Do not ignore unusual breast changes. Seek medical attention early, because early detection can make a difference.
