Ahafo NADMO director urges public to remain security conscious during downpour.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is urging the general public, particularly motorists, to exercise extreme caution during the ongoing rainy season by avoiding walking or driving through floodwaters.

As the raining season approaches, the Ahafo Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Gabriel Adu Bonsu appealed to residents to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect themselves and their properties from floodwaters.

He warned that even shallow-looking floods can have strong currents capable of sweeping away vehicles and endangering lives.

He further explained that beyond the risk of drowning or being swept away, floodwaters are often contaminated with liquid waste, harmful bacteria, and hazardous debris.

In an interview with Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Ark FM,he said the floodwaters may also conceal dangerous reptiles and sharp objects that can cause serious harm.

The Ahafo regional NADMO director also advised residents in flood-prone communities to take proactive steps by relocating to safer areas to prevent avoidable disasters.

Mr. Adu Bonsu emphasized that while the government continues to work diligently to protect the public, individuals have a critical role to play in safeguarding their own lives and property.

This caution comes in the wake of a near three-hour torrential downpour recently that caused severe flooding in several parts of the country’s capital city.

Mr. Gabriel Adu Gyamfi also cautioned residents in flood-prone areas to be mindful of their environmental obligations to prevent flooding.

He emphasized that individual and collective actions can significantly reduce the risk of flooding by properly disposing of waste and avoiding littering drains and waterways.

According to him, by taking responsibility for our environment, the Ahafo Region can reduce the risk of flooding and build a more sustainable future.
