Bad Weather Forces Another Helicopter to Land -This Time in Nkawka
In a second incident within days, a Volta River Aviation helicopter was forced into an emergency landing Monday morning near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The aircraft, a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW, had taken off from Accra bound for Kumasi but encountered dangerously poor visibility caused by harsh weather. The pilot made the precautionary decision to touch down safely, with all crew members unharmed.
This follows last week’s dramatic landing at the Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben, when another helicopter, 9G-ADW, carrying four passengers, diverted due to turbulent winds and near-zero visibility. That aircraft remained grounded for over an hour as weather conditions improved, drawing curious onlookers from the community.
Both incidents highlight the challenges pilots face as severe weather patterns continue to disrupt flights across Ghana.
