MTN Ghana Powers Ashanti Entrepreneurs: 120 SMEs Benefit from Business Clinic in Kumasi
Small businesses in the Ashanti Region are getting a big boost as MTN Ghana continues its commitment to building stronger and more resilient enterprises through its SME Accelerate Programme.
On Wednesday, the telecom giant rolled out another edition of its SME Business Clinic in Kumasi, hosting 120 entrepreneurs drawn from dressmaking and tailoring associations, business groups, and individual enterprises across the region.
The event, described by many participants as a “turning point” for their businesses, formed part of MTN’s wider SME Month initiative designed to equip Ghanaian entrepreneurs with tools for financial inclusion, digital engagement, and business competitiveness.
Why the SME Fair Matters
The Kumasi Business Clinic coincided with an SME Fair, which gave entrepreneurs an open platform to Showcase their products and services to new markets.
Discover MTN’s tailor-made business solutions, including data, voice, SMS packages, and digital management platforms.
Network with peers, exchange ideas, and forge partnerships.
The fair was not just about exhibition—it also created learning moments. Workshops and training sessions focused on capacity building, teaching entrepreneurs how to position their businesses for growth in a rapidly changing economy.
Tailored Support for Small Businesses
Explaining the motivation behind the clinic, Mr. Abubakari Sidick, Senior Manager for SME Sales at MTN, emphasized that SMEs often need customized assistance.
“We call it a clinic because many SMEs in Ghana require tailored support to address gaps in capacity building and digital adoption. This is the fourth SME Clinic we have organized in Kumasi. The goal is to support SMEs that contribute significantly to Ghana’s economy. We have identified about 120 SMEs and are equipping them with knowledge to overcome challenges such as access to finance, insurance, and stock protection,” he said.
This reflects MTN’s broader mission to strengthen SMEs, which play a crucial role in job creation and economic stability across Ghana.
Partnership with Sanlam Allianz: Protecting What Matters
The program also highlighted the importance of collaboration, with Sanlam Allianz joining MTN as a strategic partner.
Ernestina Nana Adwoa Oyelaran, Head of Business Development and Distribution (Corporate and Commercial) at Sanlam Allianz, reaffirmed her company’s commitment to business sustainability:
“SMEs are the backbone of every economy, so we see the need to invest in their growth and empower our people. Our objective is to help them live with confidence because they are investing heavily in their businesses—their money, stock, and efforts must be protected.”
Through this partnership, entrepreneurs gained insight into risk management, insurance, and ways to safeguard their investments against unforeseen challenges.
A Life-Changing Experience for Entrepreneurs
For many participants, the Kumasi SME Business Clinic was more than just another workshop-it was an eye-opening experience.
“We have learned that the size of a business does not determine its importance. The clinic has taught us how to keep proper records and address business challenges. It has been very impactful,” one entrepreneur shared.
Others highlighted how the training has reshaped their mindset about the role of small businesses in national development. By instilling confidence and practical knowledge, MTN’s program has inspired entrepreneurs to scale their operations with a clearer vision of growth.
The Kumasi edition marks the fourth SME Clinic organized by MTN in the Ashanti Region, reaffirming the company’s commitment to empowering Ghana’s entrepreneurs.
Through digital tools, financial literacy, networking opportunities, and strategic partnerships, MTN Ghana is not just offering connectivity,it is building capacity for the future of business in Ghana.
With SMEs forming the heartbeat of Ghana’s economy, initiatives like this ensure that small business owners are not left behind in the digital age but are instead positioned to thrive in it.
