A terrifying scene unfolded on Thursday morning, November 13, 2025, when a raging fire swept through a six-storey police bungalow at Jacobu, the district capital of Amansie Central in the Ashanti Region.

Eyewitnesses say thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky, drawing residents and onlookers to the scene as firefighters battled tirelessly to bring the inferno under control. The building, which serves as accommodation for police officers and their families, was severely affected, sending shock and panic across the community.

Speaking to Daily Watch Ghana, Chief Inspector Atanga confirmed the incident, noting that no casualties were recorded, though several belongings were destroyed. He added that the actual cause of the fire is yet to be identified, but investigations have been launched by both the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service to unravel the mystery behind the outbreak.

Meanwhile, Ebenezer Boakye, morning show host of Don Peace FM, a local radio station in Jacobu, disclosed that the fire started around 11:00 am., forcing residents and officers in nearby quarters to evacuate for safety. He described the scene as “a frightening moment that could have turned tragic if not for the swift intervention of the fire service.”

The incident has left parts of the police facility uninhabitable, with authorities assessing the extent of damage and exploring emergency accommodation options for affected officers.

The community has since commended the bravery and rapid response of the Ghana Fire Service, whose timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings.

As investigations continue, many are calling for routine electrical inspections and improved safety measures within public facilities to prevent future occurrences of such devastating incidents.
