Assembly members charged to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders to promote development
The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development today inaugurated 259 District Assemblies across the country excluding Nkoransa north and South whose term of office are yet to be expired.
The exercise which was in partnership with the Office of the President used the opportunity to swear-in newly elected and appointed members of the department and agencies.
“This is also in fulfillment of Article 35 Clause 6 (d) of the 1992 Constitution which joins the state to promote decentralization and popular participation in governance by affording all possible opportunities to the citizenry to participate in decision-making at all levels of government,” the statement added.
At the Amansie South district, total of elected and appointed 38 assembly members were swear-in together with their unit committee members.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mr I.K Acheampong, director of Ashanti regional coordinating council charged the assembly members collaborate with stakeholders to help promote development to their various electoral areas.
In his response, the district chief executive for Amansie South district,Hon Lawyer Clement Opoku Gyamfi said that, the only way they survive as assembly is for the members to be united.
He used the occasion to welcomed the newly elected assembly members to the house.
