A member of the Council of State representing the Ashanti Region, Yaw Obempe, has issued a strong warning of a possible nationwide demonstration against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over persistent power outages, popularly known as dumsor.
According to Mr. Obempe, the worsening electricity situation across the country has become unbearable for households and businesses, prompting urgent calls for decisive action.
Speaking on the Monday, April 27, 2026 edition of Ezra Adehyee, hosted by Aduanaba Reverend Kofi Asante Ening, he expressed deep frustration over what he described as the government’s failure to adequately address the ongoing power crisis.
Mr. Obempe, who also serves as Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing NDC, indicated that if immediate measures are not taken to stabilize power supply, he will mobilize citizens across the country to embark on a massive demonstration.
“The suffering is too much. Businesses are collapsing, and livelihoods are being destroyed due to the constant outages. We cannot sit unconcerned,” he stressed.
In a further escalation of his claims,Mr Obempe alleged that the entire management of ECG is deliberately sabotaging the administration of John Dramani Mahama through the ongoing power outages.
The threat signals rising tension within political and governance circles, as public dissatisfaction over erratic electricity supply continues to grow.
Meanwhile, the ECG has maintained that it is implementing interventions aimed at improving power distribution and reducing outages.
However, many Ghanaians say the situation remains dire, with frequent and prolonged blackouts affecting daily life and economic activities.
It remains to be seen whether government authorities will respond swiftly to the concerns raised or risk facing a large scale public protest in the coming days.
