A significant milestone in local economic development has been marked with the official commissioning of a newly constructed community market,an initiative spearheaded by a visionary individual to enhance trade and improve livelihoods within the area.

Delivering the opening remarks, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, described the occasion as a moment of pride and progress for the entire community.

Addressing assembly members, traditional authorities, market leaders, and residents, the DCE emphasized the importance of the facility as a catalyst for economic growth and social transformation.

“It is a great pleasure and honour for me to join you today on this important occasion, the official opening of this market, an initiative driven by commitment and a desire to uplift the community,” she stated.

The DCE commended the initiator of the project for demonstrating foresight and dedication, noting that while collective effort is essential for development, it often takes one determined individual to spark meaningful change. She added that the market represents not just a business venture but a lasting contribution to community advancement and local enterprise.

Highlighting the role of markets in both national and local economies, she described them as the “heartbeat of every community,” serving as vital hubs for commerce, employment, and daily interaction.

She stressed that the new facility will bring goods and services closer to residents while creating opportunities for small-scale business, particularly benefiting market women and traders.

The DCE further reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to promoting public-private partnerships and community-led development, noting that such initiatives help ease the burden on government and accelerate infrastructure growth.

“As a District Assembly, we strongly believe in supporting private initiatives that align with our development agenda.

When individuals step forward to invest in their communities, it complements government efforts and drives progress faster,” she noted.

While celebrating the achievement, the DCE also called for responsible use and proper maintenance of the facility.

She urged traders and users of the market to prioritize cleanliness, adhere to sound management practices, and safeguard the infrastructure for future generations.

“A market that is well managed will always attract more customers and create lasting benefits. It is therefore important that we all commit to maintaining this facility and sustaining it for years to come,” she emphasized.

She further charged the market leadership to implement effective systems to ensure order, security, and fairness in daily operations, stressing that proper management is key to the long-term success of the facility.

In conclusion, the DCE congratulated both the initiator and the community on what she described as a remarkable achievement. She expressed optimism that the market would grow into a thriving commercial centre and serve as a model for other communities to emulate.

“On this note, it is my honour to officially declare this market open for business,” she announced to applause from the gathering.

The event ended on a hopeful note, with a shared vision that the market will become a cornerstone of prosperity, unity, and sustainable development.

Speaking at the event held at Apaaso in the Asaago,Ampayoo,Odaso Electoral Area, the originator and private developer, Patrick Owusu, widely known as PAKUS revealed that the construction of the market forms part of his contribution to supporting government efforts aimed at job creation and reducing youth unemployment in the country.

He stressed that the initiative is not only a business venture but also a strategic intervention to empower local traders and stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level.

“One of my key motivations for putting up this facility is to complement government’s efforts in creating jobs and addressing the rising unemployment among the youth,” he stated.

Mr. Owusu further urged beneficiaries and the entire community to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to ensure the longevity of the facility, emphasizing that its sustainability depends largely on how well it is managed.

“If the community keeps this market clean and well-maintained at all times, the long-term benefits will far outweigh the initial investment,” he advised.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, the Assembly Member for the Apayoo,Asaago Electoral Area, Hon. Nelson Boakye Yiadom, called on community members to fully patronize the market and make good use of the facility to justify the investment.

He also used the platform to draw attention to pressing challenges confronting the area, including poor road infrastructure and rising insecurity, issues he said require urgent government intervention.

“While we appreciate this important development, our road network remains in a deplorable state, and insecurity is becoming a growing concern. We are appealing to the authorities to address these challenges as a matter of urgency,” he stated.

His remarks added a political undertone to the event, highlighting the gap between ongoing development efforts and unresolved infrastructural and security concerns within the community.
