Obiri Boahen Quits NPP, Decides To Contest 2024 As Independent Candidate
Nana Obiri Boahen, a prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made the surprising decision to leave the party and run as an independent in the 2024 elections, according to information obtained.
The former deputy general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen,’s decision has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, as he has been a steadfast member of the NPP for many years.
He a seasoned politician, is widely recognized for his contributions to the NPP and his roles in various government positions.
The source claims that his decision came about as a result of his elimination from the manifesto committee and campaign team of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia was endorsed by the Private Legal Practitioner, who started supporting him well in advance of his election on November 4, 2023, as the NPP flagbearer.
It was therefore the expectation of many that he would at least be made a spokesperson on the campaign team for the 2024 election.
However, hopes were dashed when Obiri Boahen did not make the list submitted to the National Executive Council (NEC) on February 19.
Reacting to the development in an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based Time FM’s Nana Owusu Achiaw, he stated he wouldn’t know his relevance in the party if he wasn’t included in the campaign and manifesto teams.
“I should have been named the campaign manager since I started my campaign in 2021,” he declared.
