The drive towards technical and vocational education development in the Atwima Mponua District received a major boost on Tuesday, 19th May 2026, as stakeholders gathered at Otaakrom Technical and Vocational Institute for a sod-cutting ceremony to commence a significant infrastructure and training project aimed at strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the area.

The colourful and impactful ceremony brought together key government officials, traditional authorities, education stakeholders, assembly members, students, and residents within the district to witness the official commencement of the project, which is expected to enhance practical skills training and bridge the gap between industry and academia.

Present at the ceremony were the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua District, Issahak Ibrahim; the Chief Executive Officer of the Skills Development Fund, Abass-Addam; the Regional Director of Ghana TVET Service; the Principal of Otaakrom Technical and Vocational Institute; traditional rulers including Nana Kwaku Bosompim II, Nana Owusu Yaw Tutu, and Nana Manu, as well as clergy members, assembly members, staff, students, and other distinguished guests.

Delivering a heartfelt address, the Principal of Otaakrom Technical and Vocational Institute, Samuel Akrasi, described the project as a timely, strategic, and transformative intervention that would greatly improve technical education delivery within the district and beyond.

According to Mr. Akrasi, the TVET initiative is expected to create practical workplace learning opportunities for students while helping to address the growing demand for skilled manpower in Ghana’s industrial sector.

“This unique TVET training programme will go a long way to bridge the demand gap between industries and academia,” the Principal emphasized.

The Principal further appealed for strength and resources for the contractor, FAPM Construction, to ensure the successful completion of the project within the stipulated timeline.

Staff and students of the institution were also encouraged to make good use of the facility when completed.

In addition to infrastructure development, the project is expected to provide modern training equipment to support effective teaching and hands-on practical learning. An appeal was therefore made to the CEO of the Skills Development Fund, Abass-Addam, to expedite procurement processes to ensure the timely delivery of the needed equipment.

Management of Otaakrom Technical and Vocational Institute also assured stakeholders of its commitment to maintaining the facility and using it effectively to train more youth through approved programmes aimed at reducing unemployment in the constituency and Ghana at large.

Education stakeholders at the event praised the initiative, describing it as a major step toward empowering young people with employable skills and promoting sustainable community development through technical and vocational education.

The project is expected to significantly improve teaching and learning conditions at Otaakrom Technical and Vocational Institute and position the institution as a centre for practical skills development in the Atwima Mponua District.
