Wassa Amenfi East Set for Landmark 24-Hour Economy Market as MCE Rallies Traders Behind Mega Project
Modern market expected to transform local commerce,create jobs and position Wassa Akropong as a major business hub in the Western Region.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Wassa Amenfi East,Hon.Raymond Nana Ebbah, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to delivering a state-of-the-art 24-Hour Economy Market,urging traders and residents to support the initiative,which is expected to transform the municipality’s commercial landscape and stimulate sustainable economic growth.
At a stakeholder engagement held on Wednesday, August 5,2026,in Wassa Akropong, Hon. Ebbah met with traders,traditional authorities,Assembly Members, market leaders and other stakeholders to provide detailed information on the ambitious market project and its implementation plan.
The sensitisation exercise was organised to ensure that traders fully understand the scope of the project, its benefits,construction timeline and the role of stakeholders in ensuring its successful execution. It also created an opportunity for participants to raise concerns,ask questions and make recommendations before construction begins.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive,the proposed market forms part of the Government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy agenda aimed at modernising trading infrastructure, increasing productivity,expanding business opportunities and creating sustainable employment across the country.
Hon.Ebbah explained that the current Wassa Akropong market lacks sufficient space to accommodate the proposed ultra-modern facility.
Consequently,the Assembly has selected the expansive Wassa Akropong “B” School Park as the site for the project to provide adequate room for the comprehensive market design.
He disclosed that although construction was initially expected to commence a month ago,extensive consultations with the Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi over land acquisition temporarily delayed the project. He assured traders that all major issues have now been addressed to pave the way for construction.
The contract has been awarded to H.A. One Day Construction Company Limited,while Devepro 360 Engineering Consult will supervise the project as consultants. The contractor is expected to complete the facility within a period of 36 months.
Addressing the gathering,Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, who also serves as the Dean of Metropolitan,Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Western Region,commended President John Dramani Mahama for introducing the 24-Hour Economy policy,describing it as a bold national development strategy that will unlock economic opportunities for traders,entrepreneurs and the youth.
He further expressed appreciation to the President for ensuring the early release of the District Assemblies Common Fund, revealing that 25 percent of the municipality’s allocation has been dedicated to the construction of the new market.
The MCE also praised the Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East,Hon. Nicholas Amankwah,for his continuous support and commitment towards the successful implementation of the project.
He challenged the contractor to execute the project to the highest standards while adhering strictly to the agreed construction schedule to ensure timely completion.
Hon. Ebbah assured traders that the redevelopment goes beyond constructing market stalls,stressing that the project is designed to provide a safe,modern,hygienic and well-organised trading environment capable of attracting more investors and customers from across the region.
He expressed confidence that the facility would significantly strengthen commercial activities within the municipality and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of traders and residents.
Several traders who participated in the engagement welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation to the government, noting that the 24-hour market would enable businesses to operate for longer hours, increase sales and create additional income opportunities.
The contractor also outlined key features of the proposed market, indicating that the facility will include a police station, fire station, banking facilities, a school for the children of traders, a spacious car park and properly designated trading areas to improve accessibility, security and efficient movement within the market.
When completed, the Wassa Amenfi East 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to emerge as one of the municipality’s most significant economic infrastructure projects, positioning Wassa Akropong as a vibrant commercial centre while supporting business expansion, job creation and long-term economic development in the Western Region.
