Relocating DRIP Machines, a Suicidal attempt to infrastructural development-Seth Osei-Akoto urges NDC:
Honourable Seth Osei Akoto, the member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua constituency, is calling on the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Frank Amoakohene, and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reconsider their decision to relocate DRIP Machines from Nyinahin to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
The MP’s concerns are rooted in the poor state of roads in the Atwima Mponua constituency, which he believes will worsen if the machines are moved. He emphasized that the constituents will feel neglected if the machines are removed. The DRIP Machines were part of an initiative by the NPP to maintain roads in various districts across Ghana.
Honourable Seth Osei Akoto, the current Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua constituency, expressed his gratitude to the community during his Thanksgiving service visit to churches namely ,The Church of Pentecost, Presbyterian,Roman Catholic,Methodist and Assemblies of God Church all in Nyinahin after the 2025 general elections.
In a related development, Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiama, the former member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, commissioned and handed over a set of machines to the Atwima Mponua District Assembly in September 2024.
It’s worth noting that the relocation of the DRIP Machines may undermine the efforts to maintain roads in the Atwima Mponua constituency, and could exacerbate the existing challenges faced by the community.
The Presiding Member for Atwima Mponua District, Honourable Justice Nkrumah Boateng, has made it clear that the youth and entire community are determined to resist any attempts to relocate the DRIP Machines from the area to the Ashanti regional coordinating council (RCC). He cited a past incident where the district’s fire tender was sent to Obuasi for repairs and never returned, fueling concerns that the same fate might befall the DRIP Machines.
This development comes amid concerns about basic social amenities especially poor roads network situation in the Atwima Mponua District. The district, with a population of over 155,000 people, faces significant challenges in terms of infrastructure and economic development.
The Atwima Mponua District Assembly has made efforts to address these challenges through its Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP), which aims to improve the quality of life for residents. However, the proposed relocation of the DRIP Machines has sparked fears that the district’s development efforts might be undermined.
