EDUCATION IS GHANA’S GREATEST LEGACY-KWADASO MCE BREAKS GROUND FOR 24-UNIT CLASSROOM PROJECT AT BSTI

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso, Hon. Eric Asibey, has called for renewed national commitment to education, describing it as Ghana’s most valuable legacy capable of transforming generations.

He made the remarks during a sod-cutting ceremony for a GETFund-sponsored project under the New Targeted and Emergency Projects initiative at the Business Secretarial and Technical Institute (BSTI) at Asuoyeboa in Kumasi.

24-Unit Classroom Block with Laboratory Facilities

The project involves the construction of a modern 24-unit classroom block, a teachers’ bungalow, and fully equipped laboratory facilities, alongside other essential amenities to enhance effective teaching and learning.

The project is expected to be completed within 24 to 36 months (two to three years). It forms part of government’s broader agenda to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) infrastructure across the country.
Hon.Asibey urged the project consultant to maintain a consistent presence on site to provide technical guidance and ensure quality work by the contractor.

Education Must Remain a National Priority
Addressing stakeholders at the ceremony, the MCE stressed that investment in education must remain central to Ghana’s sustainable development agenda.
“Education remains our future legacy. It is the most powerful tool we can use to transform lives and communities. If we are serious about national development, then we must be deliberate in prioritizing education,” he stated.

He assured residents and the school community that government remains committed to fulfilling its promises, particularly within the education sector. According to him, every effort will be made to ensure the timely completion of the project to benefit both current and future students.

Strengthening technical and vocational institutions such as BSTI, he noted, will equip young people with employable skills, reduce unemployment, and stimulate local economic growth.
“We will do everything possible to accomplish and fulfill all promises made, especially in the education sector. Our focus is to create opportunities for our youth through improved infrastructure and quality training,” Hon. Asibey added.

Stakeholders Welcome Initiative

Education authorities and community members present at the ceremony welcomed the initiative, noting that the additional classroom space and laboratory facilities would significantly reduce congestion and enhance practical learning.

The GETFund-backed project is expected to modernize the institute’s learning environment and position BSTI as a leading technical education hub within the Ashanti Region.

The ceremony was attended by Assembly staff, Engineer Daniel Amoh, Deputy Director of GTVET for the Ashanti Region, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Ernest Frimpong, party members, traditional authorities, residents, and students.

Principal Expresses Gratitude, Appeals for More Support
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the school, the Principal of BSTI, Ms. Abena Mansah Foriwaaah, thanked the ruling government and the Municipal Chief Executive for their swift response to the institute’s longstanding infrastructure needs.

She, however, appealed for additional support, citing the lack of a dining hall and kitchen facilities, as well as issues of land encroachment, as major challenges affecting the smooth progress of the school.

As government intensifies efforts to reposition Ghana’s education sector, Hon. Asibey’s message was clear,investing in education today guarantees a stronger and more prosperous generation tomorrow.
