MCE Eases Farmers’ Burden as Flood-Ravaged Roads Get Emergency Lifeline

Report By:Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, Ark FM.

Residents and farmers in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality are heaving a sigh of relief after the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, stepped in to restore major roads badly damaged by recent floods.

Days of heavy rainfall had left the Ntwentwena-Wassa Saa road virtually impassable, creating deep potholes and gullies that disrupted transportation, delayed economic activities, and threatened the livelihoods of hundreds of farmers who depend on the route to transport their produce to market.

Moved by the plight of the people, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah swiftly mobilized resources to address the situation. Through collaboration with Perseus Mines,a reputable mining company operating in the area, gravel was secured while machines under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) were deployed to rehabilitate the affected sections.

The emergency intervention has restored access to the road, allowing motorists, traders, schoolchildren, and farmers to move freely once again.

Speaking during an inspection of the works, the MCE emphasized that the graveling, reshaping, and compacting of the road form part of immediate measures to alleviate the suffering of residents while efforts continue to secure a permanent solution.

According to him, the intervention aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of “Resetting Ghana,” a development agenda focused on improving the living conditions of citizens through responsive and people-centered governance.

Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah further assured residents that together with the Member of Parliament for Amenfi East,Hon.Nicholas Amankwah, they remain committed to delivering quality leadership and addressing the infrastructural challenges confronting communities across the municipality.

In a similar move, the MCE also directed emergency rehabilitation works on the Nkonya+Abenabena road, which suffered extensive damage from the floods. Both roads have now been reshaped and reopened to traffic, restoring hope to affected communities.

He disclosed that the Assembly will soon embark on a major pothole-patching exercise on selected roads, including the municipal hospital road, to improve transportation, enhance access to healthcare facilities, and boost local economic activities.

For many residents, the swift intervention demonstrates a leadership style that listens, responds, and places the welfare of ordinary people at the center of development.
