    Highlights from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech

     

    Introduction:
    # Thanks Akuffo Addo for opportunity giving him
    # vision, priority for Ghana touching past achievements and what he intends to offer.
    # declining economic growth with challenges in 2017 backed by John saying the meet was finished and left with only bones.
    # in the midst of this, we offered free SHS, dealt with NHIS, youth employment
    # growth in agriculture 2.9% to 6%
    # exchange rate
    # jobs 2.1 million jobs in both public and private sectors. More jobs than any government in the 4th Republic
    # gdc, agric, international growth etc achievements have been chalked eg. Major roads, initiated and constructed rail lines, extension of rural telephony than any government, More fish landing sites than any government, more sports facilities than any government since 1992, more than 200 infrastructure projects under the zongo development fund, NHIS covers children cancer and medicine for sickle cell patients.

     

    Digitalization:
    # to lead is to solve by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
    # I derive my satisfaction by solving problems
    # unique identity for citizens (the Ghana card project initiated by Prez Kuffuor)
    # Ghana card linked to bank accounts and passport and can be used to travel to Ghana from some countries
    # Digital address system for properties
    # mobile money interoperability (this can be done 24/7) so 24 economy not new
    # making many citizens go cashless
    # transfers from anywhere around the world can be made
    # digitalization makes momo transactions possible 24/7
    # Ghana is fastest momo in Africa
    # e-commerce is boosted and Ghana is 6th in e-commerce
    # passport digitalized and a passport can ba applied for at home 24/7
    # Ports was largely Manual with it’s attendant problem. Now paperless
    # Digitalization has also taken place at the dvla
    # motor insurance data base which curbs fake insurance policies etc. the insurance status of any vehicle is known and can be done 24)7
    # births and deaths registry digitalized
    # New born babies will be given Ghana card number and the card given when they turn 6
    # scholarship can be applied for at the comfort of homes of applicants 24/7
    # 99% of mmda are on the ghana.gov platform (e-governance)
    # ECG App for customers to buy power on their phones 24/7. New metres can be applied for 24/7
    # integration of data base eg ssnit number etc are Ghana card number
    # filing of taxes now easier with Digitalization. Now taxes can be filed 24/7 via mobile phone.
    # digital folders for patients at hospitals. The digital folders can be accessed 24/7
    # renewal of NHIS can be done 24/7

    Drones
    # the Zipline way. Critical medicines/supplies/vaccines easily taken to save lives. The Zipline services are available 24/7.
    # the national electronic pharmacy platform will be operationalized fully this year. E-phamarcy services will be available to citizens 24/7

     

    THE DMB VISION, PRIORITY, POLICIES.

    # food security, sustainable jobs with meaningful pay
    # growth mindset curriculum in schools
    # micro economic stability
    # fiscal discipline
    # job and wealth creation by the private sector.
    # provide private sector with incentive to venture into infrastructure projects
    # not more 50 Ministers and deputy ministers under a DMB government
    # introduction of a flat task regime
    # Tax Digitalization. Collection will be faceless.
    # leverage technology, data and systems to build Ghana
    # increase internet penetration to close to 100%
    # enhanced focus on TVet
    # NSS: there will be exemption and students will decide to engage in national or not so that companies can go to the campus to recruit
    # 1 student 1 laptop in tertiary institutions at reduced cost
    # reducing cost of living- cost of living has increased following the COVID-19 etc
    # prioritize Pwalugu dam construction for irrigation
    # electric cars will be prioritized
    # energy self sufficiency through solar power
    # green energy – abolish taxes on solar panels

    Natural Resources
    # maximise benefit from natural Resources for the development of our country
    # creating many millionaires in the small scale mining sector
    # decentralize mineral commission and environmental protection agency
    # abolish VAT on exploration
    # there will be minerals development bank just like adb

    Industrialization
    # automobile industry
    # free zones in some entry point eg Elubo, Sankasi,Tatale, Aflao etc

    Corruption
    # transparency through cashless society
    # e-cedi promotion to track money movement
    # no taxes on digital payments so e-levy will be abolished
    # online publishing of contracts
    # make it easier to get credit by building a credit system
    # amend constitution for national development through extensive consultation
    # grow tourism for job creation

    Sports
    # incentives for corporate sponsorship so government will be free of the burden of sponsorship
    # school level collaboration with other bodies
    # any Ghana card holder will only pay a fee for a passport but not apply again for passport
    # implementation of affirmative action bill
    # free SHS will continue.
