The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Amenfi East, Raymond Nana Ebbah, has strongly denied allegations that he unleashed thugs on the Member of Parliament for the area, Nicholas Amankwah, and some executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The controversy stems from a violent incident on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, during which at least one NDC constituency officer was reportedly attacked with a machete and several others sustained injuries. The clash is said to have erupted following a disagreement over the appointment of a District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Coordinator.
According to NDC executives, the MCE opposed their preferred candidate, and when the MP and party leaders visited the Assembly to push for his endorsement, a group of armed men allegedly stormed the premises and launched violent assaults.
However, the MCE has flatly dismissed the accusations, insisting he had no hand in the attacks. “I have no connection with these alleged thugs. I was not involved in any such arrangement. I am ready to cooperate fully with the police to establish the truth,” Mr. Ebbah told local media.
Meanwhile, the NDC in Amenfi East has condemned the incident, describing it as a deliberate attempt to intimidate its leaders, and has called on government and security agencies to immediately investigate and sanction the perpetrators.
The police are yet to release an official report on the matter, but sources indicate that investigations are ongoing to establish the facts behind the bloody confrontation.
