Asantehene Slaps Werempehene Nana Opia Mensah,Loses Eligibility Case at Manhyia Palace

The current Werempehene, Nana Opia Mensah, has lost an eligibility case at the Manhyia Palace, putting his position as the Asantehene’s representative at risk.

The Werempe Stool holds a sacred position in the Asante Monarchy system, overseeing major towns in the kingdom, including Manso Ankam, Manso Agroyesum, and Aponapon, among others.

Nana Opia Mensah, a member of the Aduana clan, was challenged by some members of the Oyoko clan from Juaben, who claimed rightful ownership of the stool.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, set up a committee to investigate the matter, which presented its findings to the court on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

The committee recommended that the Asantehene return the Stool to the Oyoko family, citing evidence that they are the rightful owners.

The Asantehene subsequently directed that the stool be given to the Oyoko clan.

Nana Opia Mensah, whose family has occupied the Stool for 51 years, was fined
