The Ashanti South Media Caucus has honoured four senior police officers for what it described as their exceptional dedication to duty, professional leadership and significant contribution to maintaining peace and security in the Ashanti South jurisdiction.

The four officers, all serving under the Ashanti South Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, were presented with citations in recognition of their efforts to combat crime, protect lives and property, and strengthen public safety.

The awardees are DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, lAshanti South Regional Commander; ASP Martin Amoah Kpentey, District Police Commander, Bekwai South; Chief Superintendent Richmond Bonsu,Divisional Police Commander, Bekwai Division; and Superintendent Stephen Antwi, Regional Crime Officer, Ashanti South Regional Police Command.

The media caucus, comprising journalists from various media houses, said the officers had distinguished themselves through professionalism, dedication, discipline and selfless service, contributing to the maintenance of peace and stability in Ashanti South and the wider Ashanti Region.

Media Caucus Commends Police for Security Gains

Presenting the citations, President of the Ashanti South Media Caucus, Francis Owusu, popularly known in media circles as Barima Kwadwo (Bari-K),together with the caucus vibrant Secretary,Hon Justice Baffour Awuah, commended the four officers for their commitment to maintaining law and order.

He said the recognition was the media caucus’ way of acknowledging public officials who had demonstrated exceptional commitment to their responsibilities and made tangible contributions to the safety of residents.

Francis Owusu expressed the hope that the citations would serve as an additional motivation for the officers to continue working diligently to protect lives and property.

He also urged them to maintain their professional standards and deepen their engagement with stakeholders in the collective effort to keep communities safe.

DCOP Nyaaba Praises Strong Police-Media Partnership

Speaking on behalf of the four awardees, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba thanked the Ashanti South Media Caucus for the honour, describing the recognition as both timely and encouraging.

“This is a timely citation for all of us, and we want to say thank you to the Regional Media Caucus of the Ashanti South Region for recognising our hard work,” he said.

According to DCOP Nyaaba, the relationship between the police and the media had remained cordial, with regular engagements between the two institutions helping to promote public awareness, information sharing and peace.

He said the media had played an important role in communicating police activities and achievements to the public while also helping to educate residents on security matters.

He therefore called for continued cooperation between the police and journalists to strengthen public confidence and improve security.

‘We Have Fought the Criminals’ — DCOP Nyaaba

The Ashanti South Regional Commander disclosed that the police had intensified operations against criminal activities following relatively high crime levels when the command assumed responsibility.

He said the command had deployed enhanced operational strategies to pursue criminals and restore calm to communities within its jurisdiction.

“When we took over, the crime level was a bit high, but with my men, we have fought the criminals, and as you can all testify, the jurisdiction and the entire Ashanti Region are safe,” DCOP Nyaaba stated.

He said the Ashanti South jurisdiction had subsequently become relatively calm, while warning criminals against attempting to enter the area to carry out illegal activities.

According to him, the police would continue to pursue individuals whose activities threatened the safety and security of residents.

Ashanti South Police Given Approval for Wider Operations

DCOP Nyaaba further revealed that the command had received approval from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to extend its operations beyond its immediate boundaries within the region whenever necessary.

He said the approval would allow the command to support security operations outside its traditional operational boundaries when circumstances required coordinated police action.

The move, he noted, would further strengthen efforts to prevent criminals from exploiting jurisdictional boundaries to evade law enforcement.

‘These Citations Will Become Our Legacy’

For DCOP Nyaaba, the citations represented more than a moment of recognition; they were a lasting record of the officers’ contribution to the Ghana Police Service.

He said the awards would serve as legacies that could be cherished long after the officers had retired from active service.

“These citations given to us are legacies we are going to leave behind.
Eventually, we shall all retire, and having these in our rooms, people can read them and witness what we came to do in the Ashanti South Command,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to the media caucus for documenting and recognising the work being done by police officers in the region.

Citation Highlights DCOP Nyaaba’s Crime-Fighting Record

In the citation presented to DCOP Nyaaba, the Ashanti South Media Caucus praised him for what it described as “exemplary leadership, professionalism and unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order” following the elevation of the Ashanti South Police Command to a regional command.

The citation highlighted the command’s reported achievements in crime prevention, the arrest of suspected criminal elements and the recovery of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons.

It also commended DCOP Nyaaba’s strategic leadership and emphasis on intelligence-led policing, which the caucus said had strengthened crime-fighting operations and enhanced public confidence in the police.

    Galamsey Fight Also Earns Recognition

The Ashanti South Media Caucus further recognised DCOP Nyaaba’s efforts in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, within the Ashanti South Region.

According to the citation, his coordinated approach to tackling illegal mining had contributed to efforts to protect the environment, water bodies and the livelihoods of residents in affected communities.

The caucus said the recognition was intended to celebrate the officers’ outstanding service and encourage them to sustain their commitment to professional policing.

It also reaffirmed the media’s readiness to work with the Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders to promote peace, public safety, crime prevention and development across Ashanti South and the wider Ashanti Region.
