MTN Ghana Launches Self-Service SIM Swap Platform to Enhance Customer Convenience

MTN Ghana has officially launched its Self-Service SIM Swap platform in the Northern Business District as part of a nationwide rollout aimed at improving customer convenience and expanding digital access to telecommunications services.

The launch event, which attracted traders and patrons within the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi, was held on Wednesday at the Kejetia Market. The occasion brought together government officials, market leaders and executives of the telecommunications company.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, was represented at the event by the Municipal Chief Executive for Old Tafo, Abubakar Sadiq.

The newly introduced platform allows customers to replace lost or damaged SIM cards through digital channels without visiting an MTN service centre. Customers can initiate the SIM swap process by dialing *1333#, using the myMTN App, or completing an online request form.

The system also incorporates advanced biometric verification technology to authenticate customers before any SIM swap request is approved.
Speaking at the launch, the General Manager for the Northern Business District of MTN Ghana, Nii Adotey Mingle, described the initiative as a major milestone in transforming customer service delivery in the telecommunications sector.

According to him, the innovation will redefine customer experience by providing faster, more convenient and secure SIM swap services.
He explained that the platform utilizes advanced biometric facial verification technology to ensure that only the legitimate owner of a SIM card can request a replacement.

Mr. Mingle further noted that the new system will significantly reduce fraud and protect customers from risks associated with cloned SIM cards and compromised identification documents.

“It delivers freedom from long queues and extended waiting times. Customers can swap their SIM anytime and from anywhere,” he said.

He added that the rollout forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader strategy to empower customers to manage their services independently while strengthening digital service delivery across the country.

“With this rollout, MTN aims to reduce reliance on agent-assisted SIM swaps. This is digital empowerment, customer-driven innovation and our vision of freedom in a connected Ghana,” he added.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Abubakar Sadiq described the launch as a significant step toward advancing Ghana’s digital and telecommunications landscape.

He commended MTN Ghana for its continued contributions to national development, noting that the company has played an important role in expanding connectivity, promoting digital innovation and supporting financial inclusion.

According to him, initiatives such as the Self-Service SIM Swap platform will make telecommunications services more accessible and convenient for customers while reducing the stress associated with visiting service centres.
He also stressed the importance of reliable digital infrastructure in supporting economic growth in the Ashanti Region, which remains one of Ghana’s major commercial and entrepreneurial hubs.

Mr. Sadiq further called for continued collaboration between telecommunications companies, regulators and government institutions to ensure that digital services remain secure, reliable and inclusive.

He expressed optimism that the new service would significantly improve customer experience and strengthen the relationship between MTN Ghana and its subscribers.
