MTN Ghana Powers Northern Innovation: GHS 9.7m Digital Hub Rises at UDS to Transform Youth Futures

A new wave of digital empowerment is sweeping through northern Ghana as the MTN Ghana Foundation teams up with the University for Development Studies (UDS) to construct a state-of-the-art Student Resource Centre on the Tamale campus.

The GHS 9.7 million initiative marks a bold commitment to bridge regional development gaps, ignite innovation, and equip young people with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world. The project, set for completion within eight months, is expected to become a cornerstone for education and technology in the North.

Far more than just a building, the new centre is envisioned as a launchpad for digital transformation,a space where students, entrepreneurs, and innovators from across the region can collaborate, learn, and create.

Key highlights of the facility include:

A next-generation computer laboratory featuring 70 laptops, robotics kits, and high-speed virtual conferencing tools

Access to MTN’s Skills Academy, offering free, self-paced courses in digital and technical fields

Flexible, innovation-driven workspaces built to inspire creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving

Open access for non-UDS students, empowering learners from nearby communities and institutions

Speaking at the launch, Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager of the MTN Ghana Foundation, underscored the project’s role in driving inclusive growth.

Over half of Ghana’s population is under 25. If we want to build a prosperous nation, we must equip our young people with the skills that define the future, he said. “This centre is not just about technology—it’s about giving young minds the confidence and tools to lead change.”

Kuzoe noted that while Ghana’s digital infrastructure has expanded, the challenge remains in translating connectivity into real opportunity. The initiative, he said, is part of MTN’s broader mission to “empower through access, training, and innovation.”

Professor Muniru Alhassan, Dean of the UDS Nyankpala Campus, hailed the partnership as a timely boost to higher education in northern Ghana.

“In today’s economy, knowledge is not enough, students must be digitally fluent, adaptable, and collaborative,” he said. “This facility gives them the platform to develop those skills right here in Tamale.”

This project adds to the MTN Ghana Foundation’s growing legacy of educational investment and digital inclusion. By focusing on long-term capacity building, MTN is helping to bridge the North South skills gap, promote innovation, and shape a more inclusive and future-ready Ghana.
