Anloga in the Volta Region witnessed a street demonstration this morning as a group of parents protested against what they describe as an increase in school fees affecting their children.

The parents, who marched through parts of the town holding placards and chanting slogans, expressed concern that the reported fee adjustments could place additional financial strain on families.

According to some of the protesters, the increment comes at a time when many households are already facing economic challenges.

The development has sparked renewed public discussion about the sustainability of secondary education financing in Ghana, particularly in relation to the Free SHS policy introduced under former President Nana Akufo-Addo and the broader education reforms often debated between the two main political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

While some residents point to past political debates over free education versus fee-paying models, others stress that the current concern is centered primarily on affordability and access.

They argue that regardless of political affiliation, parents are seeking clarity and relief to ensure their children’s uninterrupted education.

As of the time of reporting, authorities are yet to issue an official statement addressing the concerns raised by the demonstrators.

Stakeholders are expected to engage in dialogue to find a balanced solution that safeguards both quality and accessibility in the education sector.
