MTN Ghana Pumps $245m into Network Expansion, Targets 14 Ashanti Cities, Intensifies Anti-Fraud Fight
MTN Ghana has announced a massive $245 million investment into its network expansion for 2025, reaffirming its commitment to delivering faster and more reliable connectivity across the country. The investment is expected to significantly boost coverage and service quality, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where 14 key cities, including Kotei, Nkawie, Mampong and others, have been earmarked for major upgrades.
According to Mr. Dickson Amoung-Yam, Technical Manager for Network Field Services at MTN Ghana, the expansion is aimed at improving internet speeds, call quality, and the overall customer experience as demand for data and digital services continues to rise. He explained that the initiative forms part of MTN’s long-term ambition to position Ghana as a digital economy leader in Africa.
Alongside the network upgrades, MTN Ghana is intensifying its anti-fraud campaign to protect Mobile Money (MoMo) and other digital services. The company has introduced advanced technologies such as biometric logins, enhanced PIN security, and real-time monitoring systems to detect and block suspicious transactions. A dedicated 24/7 fraud support team has also been set up to assist customers who fall victim to scams.
MTN officials stressed that these interventions are not only about customer protection but also about strengthening trust in the company’s digital platforms, which serve millions of Ghanaians daily. “We are determined to provide world-class service while ensuring the safety of every customer who uses our network,” the company said in a statement.
With this bold move, MTN Ghana is positioning itself to maintain market leadership while empowering communities, businesses, and individuals through stronger connectivity and safer digital services.
