The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, has underscored the vital role of stakeholders’ contributions in safeguarding the dignity and livelihoods of over 257,000 pensioners currently on the Trust’s payroll.
Speaking at a Staff Breakfast Meeting in Kumasi, Mr. Biney stressed that employer compliance and digital transformation remain central to sustaining Ghana’s pension scheme.
The event, themed “Strengthening Employer Compliance for a Sustainable Pension Scheme through Digital Transformation,” highlighted SSNIT’s drive to make its operations more efficient, inclusive, and reliable. Mr. Biney explained that ongoing digitalisation efforts aim to eliminate barriers that make compliance burdensome for employers while ensuring seamless engagement with all stakeholders.
Through its digital platforms, including the Self-Service Portal and Mobile App—SSNIT now provides a wide range of services. These include:
Fast and accurate submission and validation of contribution reports
Payment of contributions via mobile money, direct debit, or bank transfers
Application for and tracking of clearance certificates
Lodging complaints and monitoring their resolution
Mr. Biney also announced the opening of two new physical branches at Adenta and Spintex, alongside plans to launch a 24/7 Virtual Branch to give stakeholders round-the-clock access to services. Additionally, SSNIT is partnering with selected banks to set up co-location service points within banking halls for added convenience.
Reaffirming SSNIT’s commitment to improving transparency and simplifying processes, Mr. Biney called for continuous open dialogue. He encouraged stakeholders to share their concerns and suggestions, stressing that their active engagement is crucial to keeping the pension scheme strong and sustainable for generations.
