We Deserve Better Roads Too- Odotobri MP Cries Out Over Poor Road Network

Residents of the Odotobri Constituency in the Ashanti Region may soon see relief from years of struggling with deplorable roads, as Member of Parliament, Hon. Lawyer Anthony Mmieh, passionately pushes for the area to be included in government’s flagship Big Push road agenda.

The MP made the passionate appeal while inspecting a 29-kilometre reshaped road stretch linking the Huu and Hia Yeya electoral areas,a project initiated through collaborative efforts between his office and local communities.
According to him, Odotobri remains one of the major contributors to Ghana’s economy through cocoa production, trading activities, and mining, yet the constituency continues to suffer from poor road infrastructure.

Hon. Mmieh stressed that it was only fair for the constituency to benefit from major national development projects considering its enormous economic contributions.

“Our people are suffering because of the bad roads. Farmers, traders, drivers, and even school children face challenges every day. Government must extend the Big Push road projects to Odotobri to reduce the burden on residents,” he stated.

The legislator also called on government to urgently settle payments owed to two contractors currently handling road projects in the constituency, saying the delay has forced them off-site and stalled progress.

Residents who spoke during the inspection did not hide their frustrations, describing how the deteriorating roads continue to affect transportation, healthcare access, and economic activities within the area.

Some residents said travelling to the district capital and neighbouring communities has become extremely difficult, especially during the rainy season, and appealed to government for immediate intervention.

Meanwhile, the Odikro of Huu Akwansram, Nana Owusu Asim Panin II, also raised concerns over poor mobile network connectivity in the community, describing it as a major setback to communication and business growth.

He further appealed to the District Assembly to upgrade the community’s CHPS Compound to improve healthcare delivery for residents.
The calls from both traditional leaders and residents add to growing pressure on authorities to address the infrastructure deficits facing many rural communities across the country.
