By:Sampene George, Ashanti region
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Coordinator for Adansi Asokwa District, Majid Governor, has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) risks losing its dominance in the Ashanti Region due to what he describes as impactful development initiatives under the administration of John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, Ghana is now on a stable path under the NDC government, with economic conditions showing signs of improvement. He noted that prices are no longer escalating as experienced under the previous administration, adding that government policies have restored confidence in the system.
Majid Governor stressed that the NDC’s growing performance in the Ashanti Region, traditionally considered a stronghold of the NPP,is evident through ongoing and completed projects.
He cited key developments including the completion of the Sewua Regional Hospital and the Afari Military Hospital, which were previously abandoned. He also highlighted the Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Phase II project, expected to accommodate about 20,000 traders and scheduled for completion in 2026.
Additionally, he referenced the long-abandoned Krofrom Market project, which has stalled for over 17 years but has now received assurances from President Mahama for completion by the end of 2026.
Other major infrastructure initiatives mentioned include the proposed six-lane Accra-Kumasi Expressway, currently at the feasibility and design stage, with construction expected to commence in 2026. He also pointed to the Suame Interchange and its auxiliary bridges, which are expected to ease traffic congestion within Kumasi and its surrounding areas.

Majid Governor further commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, describing him as one of the best-performing ministers. He praised the Minister’s Ashanti Festival initiative, noting that it will enhance the image and development of the region.
He made these remarks during an inspection of over 120 kilometres of road projects across the Adansi Asokwa District.
The roads inspected include Yaw Dankwa,Aboabo II to Anomabo, Ayokoa to Duapompo, Nyamekrom to Akromaso, Fumso to Odem, Odem to Anwiaso, Anwiam to Aboaboso, Atuam, Badwe, Konsimwa,Boko, Fumso to Tawiah, and Kwantenso to Forest Ano. Chief Executive, Albert Dakurah, in advancing the government’s resetting agenda.
