Advocates stronger collaboration between orthodox and herbal hospitals to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The Chief Executive Officer of Amagashi Herbal Hospital, Apostle Dr. Samuel Amagashi, has called on the Government to establish a Herbal Nursing College to create employment opportunities for thousands of unemployed nurses while strengthening Ghana’s herbal and traditional healthcare system.

According to him, the growing number of trained nurses who remain unemployed despite completing their education demands innovative policies that will expand employment opportunities beyond conventional health facilities.

Apostle Dr. Amagashi noted that every year, thousands of nursing graduates leave training institutions with the hope of securing jobs in government and private hospitals.
However, the limited availability of vacancies has left many qualified professionals without employment.

He believes establishing a specialised herbal nursing college would equip nurses with the knowledge and practical skills required to work effectively in licensed herbal hospitals and traditional healthcare centres across the country.

He explained that such an institution would not only reduce graduate unemployment but also improve healthcare delivery by producing professionals trained specifically in herbal nursing and traditional medical practices.

The renowned herbal practitioner further observed that many licensed herbal hospitals are expanding their services but struggle to recruit personnel with specialised knowledge in herbal healthcare, making the proposed college both necessary and timely.

Apostle Dr. Amagashi also appealed to the Government, the Ministry of Health and other relevant stakeholders to incorporate herbal nursing education into Ghana’s healthcare training system to complement existing nursing programmes.

He further proposed stronger collaboration between orthodox and licensed herbal hospitals through a structured referral system that would enable patients to receive the most appropriate treatment.

Under the proposed arrangement, orthodox hospitals could refer patients to licensed herbal hospitals where herbal treatment is suitable, while herbal hospitals would also refer patients requiring conventional medical care to orthodox health facilities.

According to him, such collaboration would promote an integrated healthcare system, widen treatment options, improve patient outcomes and strengthen public confidence in herbal medicine.

Apostle Dr. Samuel Amagashi made the appeal during the commissioning of a newly completed facility at Amagashi Herbal Hospital at Suame Maakro in Kumasi.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Nkwantakese,Nana Boakye Yam Ababio, who represented His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, urged Ghanaians to prioritise regular medical check-ups and always seek professional medical advice before taking any medication.

He cautioned against self-medication, warning that taking medicines without proper diagnosis could lead to serious health complications and delay effective treatment.

Nana Boakye Yam Ababio stressed that early diagnosis and timely medical intervention remain critical to preventing diseases and improving health outcomes.

He also commended the management of Amagashi Herbal Hospital for expanding its healthcare infrastructure through the commissioning of the new facility and encouraged private healthcare providers to continue complementing government efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services across Ghana.
