Asantehene destools Mpasaasohene over illegal mining and other offences

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Amofa Twumasi II, chief of Mpasaaso No.2 in the Ashanti region, over multiple allegations, including his involvement in illegal mining activities.

Other allegations include his questionable royal lineage, and a lack of oversight and accountability to his community and traditional leaders.

The chief who has reigned for 41 years was found guilty after he appeared before the Asanteman Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace over the allegations.

The central issue surrounding his destoolment was his involvement in illegal mining activities in the Mpasaaso community which has led to the destruction of water bodies.

The Asantehene emphasized that the chief’s actions violated the values of customs, emphasizing that traditional leaders have the responsibility to uphold the law and protect the land.

The Manhyia Palace has in recent times destooled a number of chiefs for their involvement in illegal mining operations.
