Officials of MobileMoney Fintech Limited have engaged Mobile Money (MoMo) agents, business partners and other stakeholders in Kumasi in a forum aimed at strengthening collaboration, addressing operational challenges and improving digital financial services and customer experience.
The forum, held on Wednesday, provided an opportunity for the company to discuss developments in the mobile money industry, introduce participants to new products and services, and outline measures to enhance security and protect agents and subscribers against fraud.
During a presentation, David Nana Addai, Mobile Money Channel and Development Manager for the Northern Sector, educated participants on key operational issues, including Know Your Customer (KYC) updates, the revised cash-out process and the importance of updating agents’ and merchants’ databases.
He also highlighted more than 45 products and services introduced by MobileMoney Fintech Limited since the commencement of its operations.
Participants were further briefed on support packages available to agents, including insurance and other services designed to improve their business operations and overall experience.
Agents Play Critical Role in MoMo Industry — Addai.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the forum, Mr Addai described the engagement as essential, emphasising that MoMo agents serve as the company’s representatives in communities across the country.
He explained that direct engagement with agents enables the company to understand their concerns, identify practical solutions to operational challenges and educate them on changes within the industry.
According to him, the forum was also intended to strengthen the relationship between the company and its agents while ensuring that they remain abreast of new operational procedures, products and services.
Mr Addai stressed that agents play a vital role in delivering mobile money services to customers, making their continuous education and involvement crucial to improving service delivery.
MobileMoney Steps Up Fight Against MoMo Fraud
Addressing growing concerns about mobile money fraud, Mr Addai disclosed that MobileMoney Fintech Limited had introduced several security interventions to protect agents and subscribers from fraudsters.
He said the company was strengthening its collaboration with state security agencies to intensify efforts to combat mobile money-related criminal activities.
According to him, the collaboration had yielded positive results, with some suspected fraudsters recently apprehended and facing prosecution.
Mr Addai further explained that the company’s anti-fraud measures extended beyond blocking telephone numbers linked to fraudulent activities.
He revealed that MobileMoney Fintech Limited had also begun blocking phones used by perpetrators to commit such offences, as part of broader efforts to make mobile money fraud more difficult to carry out.
He said the interventions formed part of the company’s commitment to safeguarding agents and protecting subscribers who rely on mobile money services for their daily financial transactions.
MoMo Agents, Subscribers Cautioned Against Sharing PINs
Despite the enhanced security measures, Mr Addai urged MoMo agents and subscribers to protect their personal identification numbers (PINs) and refrain from disclosing them to others.
He warned that sharing confidential security information could expose users’ accounts to fraud and other unauthorised transactions.
He therefore encouraged agents and subscribers to remain vigilant, keep their PINs confidential and take personal responsibility for securing their accounts.
Mr Addai emphasised that although the company continued to strengthen its security systems and work with law enforcement agencies, the cooperation of agents and subscribers remained essential in preventing fraud.
Commitment to Improving Digital Financial Services
The Kumasi forum forms part of MobileMoney Fintech Limited’s broader stakeholder engagement efforts aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening partnerships and enhancing the security and reliability of mobile money services in Ghana.
Through such engagements, the company seeks to keep agents informed about industry developments, address their operational concerns and equip them with the knowledge and support needed to serve customers effectively.
The initiative also underscores the importance of collaboration among service providers, agents, merchants and subscribers in building a safer, more reliable and accessible digital financial services ecosystem.
