New Dawn for Kotokuom: Refurbished Bridge Commissioned

Kotokuom Bridge Reborn: Ashanti Regional Minister Calls for Maintenance Culture

Kotokuom and its neighbouring communities in the Atwima Mponua District have entered a new chapter of progress with the official commissioning of the newly refurbished Kotokuom Bridge.

The colourful ceremony, held at the Kotokuom R/C Park on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, was led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and drew a large crowd of traditional leaders, government officials, Assembly members, and residents who had long awaited this milestone.

    A Long-Awaited Relief

For years, the bridge spanning the Offin River had deteriorated into a death trap, causing accidents and crippling local economic activities. Farmers, traders, and cocoa transporters bore the brunt of the hardship as heavy-duty vehicles struggled to cross, delaying business and cocoa transport.

The newly refurbished structure is now expected to restore smooth transport, reduce costs, and inject fresh energy into the local economy.

    Minister’s Message: Maintain, Don’t Destroy

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Amoakohene described the bridge as a “vital lifeline” for the district. He urged residents to embrace a culture of maintenance to preserve the facility for generations.

The bridge belongs to all of us, and it is our responsibility to protect it. Let us ensure that we maintain this project so it can serve generations to come,” he said.

The Minister also admonished small-scale miners to desist from polluting rivers and streams, encouraging them instead to align with President John Dramani Mahama’s Proper Mining Initiative to safeguard the environment.

    DCE Hails a Turning Point

District Chief Executive Hon. Issahaque Ibrahim hailed the commissioning as a “significant milestone” in Atwima Mponua’s history.

“With the refurbished Kotokuom Bridge now in place, we can look forward to improved connectivity, better access to health and education facilities, and increased business opportunities for our people,” he noted.

He extended gratitude to President Mahama, the Roads and Highways Ministry, the Regional Minister, Assembly members, traditional authorities, and NDC executives for their support in making the project a reality.

    A Beacon of Progress

Once a hazard and source of fear, the Kotokuom Bridge now stands as a symbol of resilience, unity, and development. For Kotokuom and surrounding communities, it is more than concrete and steel it is a promise of safer journeys, thriving trade, and renewed hope.
