ATWIMA KWANWOMA ASSEMBLY STORMS AMPABAME WITH MASSIVE CLEAN-UP AHEAD OF GHANA’S 59TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION

In preparation towards Ghana’s 59th Independence Day celebration scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026, the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise at Ampabame Number One to promote environmental sanitation and public health.

The exercise was led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Grace Agyemang Asamoah, in collaboration with Assembly staff, media practitioners, residents, party members and supporters.

Addressing the media after the exercise, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah called on residents within the district to actively support the National Sanitation Day initiative to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.

According to her, fighting filth and maintaining a clean environment is not a one-man task but a collective responsibility that requires unity, commitment and collaboration from all stakeholders.

She further urged the public to desist from politicising the National Sanitation Day policy, stressing that sanitation should not be viewed through partisan lenses.

“Let us support the initiative wholeheartedly. A clean environment promotes good health and secures a better future for generations yet unborn,” she emphasized.

Sanitation Interventions Yielding Results

On his part, the District Head of the Sanitation and Environmental Department, Ernest Boakye, revealed that the sanitation exercise has helped address several environmental challenges within the district.

He disclosed that under the leadership of Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, the Assembly has distributed refuse bins to ten communities across some affected electoral areas where indiscriminate dumping had become rampant.

Communities that have benefitted include:

Atwima Akyeremade
Trede
Ampabame
Sabin Akrofrom
Asaago
And five other electoral areas.

The intervention, he noted, is helping to curb improper waste disposal, which has long been a national concern.

In addition, the Assembly has supplied sanitation tools including wheelbarrows, brooms, shovels, rakes and pickaxes to all thirty-two (32) elected Assembly Members across the district to strengthen sanitation efforts at the local level.

Mr. Ernest Boakye expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, stating that significant improvement has been recorded in sanitation management across the district.

Assembly Member Applauds Initiative

The Assembly Member for Ampabame Electoral Area, Rudorf Assuala, commended the District Assembly for its swift intervention in addressing sanitation challenges in the area.

He urged residents to support the initiative without attaching partisan interpretations to it, stressing that environmental cleanliness benefits everyone regardless of political affiliation.

The clean-up exercise forms part of activities marking Ghana’s 59th Independence Anniversary and underscores the Assembly’s commitment to promoting public health and sustainable environmental practices within the Atwima Kwanwoma District.
