Breaking:NCA to Suspend Three Wontumi Multimedia Stations After Amnesty Breach
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of three media outlets under Wontumi Multimedia for failing to rectify regulatory breaches during an amnesty period granted earlier this year.
The affected stations, located in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, include Wontumi Radio and Wontumi TV. The NCA revealed that, despite repeated notifications and an extended grace period, the company did not fulfil the requirements to regularize its broadcasting licences and resolve outstanding violations.
The suspension has ignited a wave of public and political reactions, given that Wontumi Multimedia is owned by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the outspoken Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NCA insists the decision is part of a broader effort to ensure strict compliance with broadcasting laws, warning that no media house — regardless of its political affiliation — is above regulatory enforcement.
