Candle of Hope: Adidome Health Kiosk Project Takes Bold Aim at Silent Killers in Volta Region:

Health Kiosk set to become a lifeline against silent killers burdening Ghanaians families

The Wellness Bridge Initiative (WBI) has launched the Adidome Health Kiosk Project, a groundbreaking community-driven response to the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes in the Volta Region.

The project was officially unveiled by Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Executive Director of WBI and Chief of Adidome, who described the kiosk as “a candle of hope” for his people.

Key Interventions Under the Project

Free life-saving screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar, with referrals for early treatment.

Health awareness campaigns to empower residents with knowledge on NCD prevention.

Dietary literacy education, highlighting the benefits of healthy eating with indigenous foods.

Community fitness programs for all ages, with a focus on seniors.

At the launch, Togbe Agyeman expressed concern over the growing NCD crisis, noting that hypertension remains the leading cause of adult hospital admissions in Ghana and contributes to a significant share of hospital-related deaths, particularly among the youth.

The initiative has gained the support of the Central Tongu District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), with calls for broader national-level collaboration as the project expands.

Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, Commissioner and Volta Representative to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), praised the project as an innovative health model and encouraged development partners to replicate it across the Volta Region.

Appealing for stronger backing, Togbe Agyeman called on government agencies, corporate institutions, international donors, and philanthropists to support the expansion of the project nationwide, stressing its alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

The Adidome Health Kiosk Project is envisioned as a community hub for early detection, education, and preventive care-a practical lifeline for families battling the silent killers that threaten Ghana’s health and development.
