Environmental Officer Calls for Establishment of Dedicated Environmental Court:
The Head of the Environmental Health Department in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality, Mr. Ernest Boakye, has called on the government to establish a dedicated environmental court to handle sanitation and environment-related cases across the country.
According to Mr. Boakye, the establishment of such a court will help enforce environmental laws more effectively, hold offenders accountable, and promote a cleaner and healthier society.
Speaking during a massive clean-up exercise spearheaded by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, Mr. Boakye emphasized the need for citizens to respect nature and adhere to sanitation regulations to maintain healthy communities.
He also advocated for the decentralization of key government services to help tackle sanitation challenges at the local level, stating that bringing services closer to the people would enhance responsiveness and efficiency.
Mr. Boakye believes that re-establishing environmental courts will be a step in the right direction towards addressing Ghana’s growing environmental challenges and achieving sustainable development.
“Sanitation issues in Ghana require a multifaceted approach,” he added, “including the provision of modern public washrooms and toilet facilities, as well as public education on proper waste disposal.”
