Preparations are underway for the International Day of Forests, scheduled to take place on March 21st, 2025, at the Nkawie Kuffour Park.
According to Abraham Essel, Manager of the Nkawie Forestry District, this year’s celebration promises to be a significant event, with a focus on establishing a food forest.
The program, which aims to promote sustainable forest management and address the issue of forest degradation, will be attended by high-profile guests, including President John Dramani Mahama,Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah,Lands and Natural Resources Minister,The Ministry of Food and Agriculture,Forestry Commission and several elders.
The highlight of the event will be on the theme: Tree for life and re-afforestation initiative,” a groundbreaking project designed to restore and protect Ghana’s forests and to cultivate foods.
This initiative is a crucial step towards addressing the alarming rate of forest degradation in Ghana, which poses significant threats to biodiversity, water resources, and the livelihoods of local communities.
