GHANA ANTI-CORRUPTION COALITION, BIBIANI LANET RALLY YOUTH TO FIGHT CORRUPTION ON IACD 2025

The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has marked the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) with a nationwide youth-focused campaign under the global theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.”

This year’s commemoration placed bold emphasis on empowering young people as frontline defenders of integrity, equipping them with practical knowledge on corruption prevention, whistleblowing, responsible citizenship and the use of technology to combat wrongdoing.

GACC and its partners engaged thousands of young people across schools and communities through sensitization sessions and digital outreach, urging them to Resist, Reject and Report corruption. The objective was to elevate youth participation in the anti-corruption movement and inspire concrete action in promoting transparency and accountability in their schools, communities and daily lives.

Concerned about the damaging effects of corruption on national stability, democratic institutions, justice and sustainable development, the coalition significantly expanded its outreach this year. Building on the nearly 50,000 youth reached in 34 districts in 2024, GACC extended its 2025 campaign to 87 districts across all 16 regions, amplifying youth voices and strengthening civic action for accountability.

Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai: LANet and GACC Lead Robust Local Engagement

In the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, the collaboration between GACC and the Local Accountability Network (LANet) delivered an impactful commemoration. Two major engagements were held at Lineso and Basengele, where students were taken through the forms, drivers and dangers of corruption, including fraud, bribery, favouritism, nepotism, embezzlement and conflict of interest.

Facilitators also highlighted the role of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain in detecting, exposing and preventing corruption, while reinforcing the national security mantra: “See Something, Say Something.”

Speakers emphasized that today’s world is fraught with challenges, rising insecurity, inequality and injustice, many of which are fuelled by corruption and economic crime. Empowering young people with knowledge and courage to act, they stressed, remains central to safeguarding Ghana’s democratic and developmental gains.

Strong Institutional Support

The 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day activities were supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the PAIReD Programme implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The programme is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The Bibiani municipal event saw strong participation from key stakeholders, including Mr. Eric Ntiamoah Boateng, Municipal Director of CHRAJ; Hon. Collins Berchie, Chairman of Bibiani LANet; Nana Ago-Saah, Sanaahemaa of Anhwiaso Traditional Area; Deborah Tachie Ankrah, Project Officer at Codesult Network, Bibiani; and staff of the participating schools, signalling the high level of importance attached to the day.
