Afia Kobi Ampem Girls SHS, Ashanti Region. The District Chief Executive for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has issued a strong wake-up call to government workers, especially teachers, following what she described as the “disturbing and unacceptable” poor performance recorded in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Addressing stakeholders at a colourful but emotional send-off ceremony for the outgoing Atwima Kwanwoma Municipal Director of Education, Madam Doris Ofori, the DCE said Ghana’s long-term development will remain a mirage if public sector workers continue to exhibit weak dedication, poor supervision, and declining commitment to their core duties.

Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah lamented that despite heavy investments made by government in the education sector, learning outcomes continue to fall short of expectations, largely due to poor work attitudes among a cross-section of public workers.

“Ghana cannot move to the perfect destination we all desire if we continue to see poor management and weak performance within our government institutions. Commitment to work must not be negotiable,” she stressed.

The DCE noted that teachers, as the first builders of human capital, carry a critical responsibility in shaping the future of the country. She urged them to exhibit loyalty, discipline, and a renewed sense of patriotism in their work.

“If teachers and government workers make public service more attractive through their dedication and sincerity, the results will reflect positively in student performance and national progress,” she added.

Touching on the performance of students in the 2025 WASSCE, Hon. Asamoah said the results should trigger a national conversation on the level of effort put in by teachers, school administrators, parents, and students themselves.

She emphasized that the future of the country depends on producing disciplined, well-educated graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

The event, held at Afia Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School, brought together chiefs, heads of departments, teachers, assembly members, and community stakeholders to honour Madam Doris Ofori, who is retiring after years of dedicated service as Municipal Director of Education.

Hon. Agyemang Asamoah praised the outgoing director for her outstanding leadership, describing her as a “pillar of excellence” whose contributions have left a lasting mark on the municipality’s educational landscape.

“Madam Doris Ofori served with integrity, humility, and commitment. Her legacy should inspire those who continue to hold the fort,” the DCE said.

The DCE urged educators, school leaders, and government employees across all sectors to recommit themselves to their responsibilities to ensure that the quality of public service matches the aspirations of the Ghanaian people.

She emphasized that meaningful national development can only be achieved when public workers deliver efficiently, ethically, and consistently.
