Issahaque Pledges Transformation After 71% Approval as Atwima Mponua DCE

Atwima Mponua, Ashanti Region – Ibrahim Issahaque, a former classroom teacher and constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been officially confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Atwima Mponua District Assembly. He secured a commanding 71% endorsement in a confirmation vote held on July 22, 2025.

The voting process, which took place under tight security, saw active presence from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service. The heavy security was a precautionary measure to ensure peace and order during the proceedings.

Out of 55 votes cast by assembly members:

38 voted ‘Yes’

16 voted ‘No’

1 ballot was rejected

Following his confirmation, Issahaque expressed profound appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating him, and pledged to drive a transformative development agenda across the district. He emphasized key priorities including infrastructure expansion, agriculture and farming support, responsible mining, and youth empowerment.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me, and I assure the good people of Atwima Mponua that I will work tirelessly to bring positive change and development to our communities,” he declared.

Issahaque also called for unity and collaboration, stressing that sustainable development could only be achieved through teamwork and collective responsibility.

Before the confirmation vote, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, urged assembly members to endorse the nominee, pointing out that the DCE position had remained vacant since the 2024 general elections, during which the NDC regained power. He reminded members of their role as development agents and encouraged them to prioritize the needs of the district.

Also speaking at the event, Oheneba Kwame Akoto, Chief of Nkawie, appealed to the assembly members to uphold peace and not allow partisan politics to derail the district’s development.
