Mahama is Wrecking the Public Sector—Where is Organized Labor?
I have been closely monitoring the recent appointments by the Mahama government, and I am utterly shocked and disappointed. This is the same man who stood on campaign platforms, promising to restore sanity to public sector work. Yet, in just a short time, he has done the exact opposite—tearing down everything in his path!
Career public servants—professionals who have dedicated their lives to serving Ghana—are being ruthlessly dismissed and replaced with party loyalists who have no experience or competence for the roles they are being handed. Mahama is deliberately crippling the Public Services Commission, making a mockery of its mandate to uphold contractual obligations and protect public servants from political interference.
One glaring example is a young professional who, through sheer hard work, rose through the ranks of the Ghana Education Service to become Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services after serving as a Regional Director. His only “crime”? His promotion happened under the previous government! He has now been thrown out to make room for a political puppet. Mahama is trampling on the Scheme of Service across state agencies, turning merit-based progression into a thing of the past.
And yet, organized labor remains silent! Labor Unions, wake up! If you think this mess won’t reach you, think again. Your very existence is being threatened, and if you don’t act now, it will be too late. Stand up and resist this blatant assault on professionalism, competence, and the very foundation of Ghana’s public sector!
