Military Police Storm AFSHTS: Female Teacher Assaulted as Staff Demand Removal of Headmaster Within 48 Hours

Teachers at the Armed Forces Senior High Technical School (AFSHTS) in Kumasi are up in arms after two armed Military Police officers allegedly invaded the school and attacked a female tutor, sparking outrage and a 48-hour ultimatum to authorities.
According to staff, the victim, Madam Rita, was physically assaulted in an attempt to force her into providing a statement backing the controversial return of the school’s former headmaster, Colonel Godwin Agbekey, who is currently under investigation for alleged misconduct and corruption.
The attack reportedly unfolded in full view of senior school administrators and union leaders, including Assistant Head (Administration) Mr. Afari Yeboah, Assistant Head (Domestic) Madam Harriet Hedoti, NAGRAT Regional Secretary Baba Atindana, and NAGRAT Metro Chair Ibrahim Tanko, leaving them visibly shocked.
Staff Accuse Ousted Head of Orchestrating Intimidation
The incident is said to be the latest in a chain of alleged intimidation tactics by Col. Agbekey and Military Police personnel seeking to enforce his unlawful return to office. Teachers claim the former headmaster has refused to hand over, despite directives from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the military high command.
One particular officer, identified as WO1 Akpotome Foli, has allegedly been deployed repeatedly to harass and target staff who question the embattled administrator.
Previous victims reportedly include Mr. Aboagye, a tutor in the Applied Electricity Department, who staff say was also subjected to harassment.
‘Accommodation Turned Into a Weapon’ — Staff Claim
Teachers further allege that on-campus accommodation has been used as a tool of coercion, with some being threatened with eviction on short, arbitrary notice ranging from 48 hours to one week, often without evidence-based justification.
In one recent incident, teachers refused forms reportedly circulated on behalf of the Military Police through a staff member, Mr. Nelson Aheto, leading to an immediate withdrawal of the documents.
Staff insist such actions amount to abuse of office, human rights violations, and a threat to the educational environment, deepening division and insecurity among the school community.
Headmaster Declared Unwelcome
In response, the staff body has declared Col. Agbekey persona non-grata, insisting his presence on campus endangers both staff and students.
“This situation has gone beyond tolerance,” they said.
“We respect the uniform, but we refuse to bow to intimidation and abuse.”
Five Key Demands Issued
Teachers have issued a set of urgent demands directed at state institutions:
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS):
Disassociate the Armed Forces from the alleged misconduct within 48 hours.
Ghana Armed Forces Command:
Sanction the two Military Police officers involved
Investigate and transfer the Military Police Commander in Kumasi within two weeks
GES:
Immediately enforce the removal of Col. Agbekey and ensure his full exit from the school.
Ministry of Education & Ministry of Defence:
Launch a joint committee to investigate the matter and punish those found culpable.
Police Service & CHRAJ:
Take up the assault case and deliver justice for the victim and other affected staff.
Staff Warn of ‘Next Steps’ If Authorities Fail to Act
In a strong caution, staff vowed to resist any further harassment, stating that although they remain committed to academic work, they will not compromise their safety, dignity, or professional freedom.
They called on authorities to take swift action to prevent the crisis from escalating into a national embarrassment.
“Justice delayed is justice denied,” they emphasized.
