MTN Ghana Powers Up Wa: GH¢240M Investment, AI Voice Assistant, and New Digital Tools Spark Stakeholder Excitement

MTN Ghana turned up the heat in Wa hosting a high-energy regional stakeholders’ forum that brought together community leaders, partners, media, and loyal customers. The event, part of MTN’s nationwide engagement drive, showcased the company’s commitment to open dialogue, innovation, and community-focused development.

Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Scancom, highlighted MTN’s massive investment in Ghana’s digital future. Over the past five years, MTN has poured GH¢1 billion into network infrastructure, with GH¢240 million earmarked this year to expand fibre optic coverage and strengthen 4G networks in preparation for nationwide 5G rollout.

The forum also unveiled MTN’s latest tech breakthroughs from the month-long DigiFest initiative: the MTN DigiFest platform, which showcases digital solutions, the MoMo Business App for SMEs, and Abena.ai, Ghana’s first multilingual AI voice assistant supporting Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Ga, Dagbani, and English, making digital access easier than ever.

Dogbe emphasized MTN’s dedication to transparency, gender-inclusive leadership, and data privacy standards that meet global compliance while addressing local needs.

Reflecting on MTN’s 15-year journey in the Upper West Region, Corporate Communications Manager Efua Falconer confirmed that the Wa forum is one of many across Ghana, aimed at fostering open dialogue and ensuring services meet local demands.

Wa Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa praised MTN’s contributions but called for satellite service points to reduce congestion at the Wa customer service centre. Local media representatives urged the company to support indigenous-language content and strengthen ties with community radio stations for greater local impact.

With bold investments, AI innovation, and ongoing community engagement, MTN is signaling that the digital future of the Upper West Region is here and it’s accessible to everyone.
